Artist Info:
Andy Warhol moved from a successful career as a commercial artist to a POP artist specializing in what was popular at the moment- whatever was currently experiencing its 15 minutes of fame. Whether his images were of newspaper ads, Brillo boxes, Campbell Soups, movie stars, grieving widows, electric chairs, trucks, or flowers, every screenprint he conducted was imbued with Warhol's cynicism towards commercialism and consumerism. His studio produced prints under the name of "Factory Additions," his paintings often involved silkscreening images onto canvas or wallpaper, he made movies of more or less static things (a sleeping man, the Empire State Building) because he "liked boring things." For most people the very definition of POP art is Warhol himself. His works are in most major American museums, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C., and many others. His works can also be seen in important public museums in Germany, France, Denmark, Norway, Israel, Japan, and Korea.
