Camille Hilaire was born in Metz in 1916, where he spent his youth and studied. Between 1930 and 1936, he began to draw by his own inclination and became impassioned by Durer. He entered the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1941 and became friends with Andre Lhote and Jacques Villon. Named professor of drawing at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Nancy in 1947, he pursued this career at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1958.
